Context

Forgive Yourself explores the coexistence of innocence, aggression, vulnerability, and emotional chaos within the self. Through childlike imagery, saturated colors, playful symbols, and disruptive gestures, the work brings together qualities that are often treated as contradictions. The Japanese phrase 自分を許して (Jibun wo Yurushite), meaning “Forgive Yourself,” appears within the composition as both an instruction and a reminder, grounding the visual chaos in an intimate act of self-compassion.

The work embraces the childish, impulsive, tender, and aggressive aspects of our nature rather than treating them as parts that must be suppressed or outgrown. It invites us to sit with these uncomfortable versions of ourselves, observe them, and allow them to exist without immediate judgment. Here, self-forgiveness becomes an act of recognition: accepting that even the parts of ourselves we struggle to understand or love remain part of who we are.
